BlackBerry app review: WeatherEye

WeatherEye seems to be that kind of simple app that will offer you everything you need and that’s all. I always said and I’ll always keep saying: the simple, the best and so is this app. It’s very simple but it’s also the best being the most popular weather app.

 BlackBerry app review: WeatherEye

Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a big rating score (only 2.5/5 stars) but I think that the thing that this is the most popular weather app should make you at least try it because it’s also free so you won’t lose anything just for trying it.

Either that it has a low rating score, there are still some 5/5 reviews from people saying that this is exactly what they needed and I think this is pretty understandable. There are some people liking something and there are some people liking something else.

This app doesn’t have too many buttons or too many unusable features. It just tells you the weather in your area but at the same time, you are allowed to look for the weather in other areas too. Some simple and usable features are searching cities by GPS, warning updates, radar maps, long-term forecast etc.

For other features or the download link, click here.

BlackBerry app review: BigTinCan BuzzMe

Some people really love to have full control on their phones, even in those “places” where they don’t need access. Well, this app allows you do a part from those things namely to control “the behavior” of your BlackBerry while it rings.

 BlackBerry app review: BigTinCan BuzzMe

To make it clear for you, this app allows you to control the LED color and make your phone to be able to ring and vibrate at the same time. Another feature that I love about this phone and which is also very useful on any other phone but unfortunately there are few phones coming with this feature is that it allows you to set a missed phone call reminder with LED and vibration.

If you own a BlackBerry Storm, there is another interesting feature for you namely the Facedown mode. That feature will turn off BuzzMe vibration when you place your Storm facedown. I have to say that if someone would have asked me if this was possible to do just with an app, I wouldn’t be sure about it.

By downloading this, you will also get 14-day free trial of the Premium version which has support for many Social Networks but this version is free and if you want to download it, click here

BlackBerry app review: LearnChinese

I don’t know why but I never accessed in any IT domain the Education category but when I noticed that, I was curious to see what’s on the first place and it was quite predictable.

 BlackBerry app review: LearnChinese

As Chinese is the most spoken language and dictionary apps are very wanted, that made this app to be on the first place. On the other places are other dictionaries like Spanish (#2), English (#4) and French (#5). Now let’s focus on the most wanted BB dictionary.

As the description mentions, this app contains 400 self-contained audio lessons and if you really want to learn Chinese there is no way by listening to most of all those 400 self-contained audio lessons not to learn to express yourself in Chines.

The best thing at learning with such an app is that you don’t have to spend too much money to learn that language. All you need is your BB and that’s all.

This app also looks pretty cool because it got a nice interface too either that there is no need on such an app to have nice graphics. If you’re not sure about how great is this app, you should also know that it has 4.5/5 stars.

The app costs only $4.99 and it can be bought from here.

BlackBerry App review: iTookThisOnMyPhone

I have to say that this is an amazing app and I think it should be on the first place on its category. Also, if you ask me, this is one of my favorites BlackBerry apps and you’ll see what I like so much about it.

 BlackBerry App review: iTookThisOnMyPhone

This app is basically a sharing app and free image hosting website for photos and videos which is pretty cool because otherwise, you’d have to use a lot more apps to upload a video / photo, then you should open another app (or browser) to share it on a social network.

This app allows you to post photos and videos on Facebook, Twitter/TwitPic, YouTube, Flickr, Photobucket and others but what I just mentioned is enough to make you understand that this is a special app. You might have doubts that this is not so true but take a look at the reviews and you’ll see that the overall rating is 4.5/5 stars.

The only important problem I could find in the reviews box is that when you upload more than 2 photos, the phone becomes very warm (this is met at many smartphones – actually at all smartphones that I tested) and then it shuts down.

The app is free and if you’re interested, you can download it from here

BlackBerry NYTimes app review

On all smartphones app markets, the NY Times app is in the top news apps and you can answer yourself of why’s happening that. The overall rating of this app is 4/5 stars and it’s quite ok because such a wanted app should give their large amount of customers some good services too. I think they should even try to get 4.5/5 stars but it’s ok the way it is right now too.

 BlackBerry NYTimes app review

From what I see in the screenshots they provided and from the customers reviews, this app seems just to provide the services that it should provide and that’s all but an app with a real success should also feature a nice interface. I think they should added some nicer fonts or even better, it would be cool to be able to change the fonts by yourself because I’ve seen that at many apps but I guess I’m asking too much from them.

A nice feature about this app is offline reading. When your phone has internet access, this app is downloading the latest news to your phone so you can read them wherever you are and you don’t need an internet connection for that.

The app is free and it can be downloaded from here.

BlackBerry theme review: Quest

I think this is the first time when I’m not so excited about a theme made by elecite. I’m not saying that the graphics are not professional; actually, they are but I don’t have that sensation of joy when I look at this theme and I think I know why.

It’s because they wanted to give to this theme an old look but it doesn’t really feel like so. I have to say that this is the latest theme that they launched and excepting the thing that this theme doesn’t really succeeded to express what they wanted to express, it’s very professional and it has the elecites “finger print” because as you might know from all the previous reviews I made about their themes, they have a very unique and also very professional style of designing BlackBerry themes.

This theme has been released just 4 days ago so it’s quite understandable why it doesn’t have any reviews. If you’re thinking to buy it, my advice is to wait a little more to see some reviews from customers that bought this theme.

The theme can be bought for $6.99 from here.

BlackBerry app review: Dropbox

I have to say that I tested this app on an iPhone and it’s a very useful app on any device like a smartphone or your PC. I wanted to upload movies into my dropbox account but unfortunately I have a small upload speed and I failed doing that but if you know your internet connection is good, don’t hesitate to install this app on your BlackBerry.

Yes, recently, this app has been also released for the BlackBerry smartphones which means that they had a big success with the other products they sold until now. You can make a free account for free and you get 2GB of storage memory but if you want more than that, you will have to pay for it.

It’s also very useful if you have many PCs and/or smartphones because it gives you easy access to your files. You can also share some files with your friends or you can keep them private.

I embedded a short video with a preview of this app above and if you want to get it on your phone, just visit the official website.

AT&T and RIM surprised at BlackBerry Torch’s low sales

Today, Fred Devereux, President of Wireless Operations in the US West for AT&T, gave the impression that the carrier was a little disappointed and somewhat surprised in BlackBerry Torch sales. During the Mobile Future Forward event in Seattle, Devereaux said he was “surprised there hasn’t been a faster adoption” of the smartphone.

AT&T and RIM surprised at BlackBerry Torchs low sales

So, do you also think the same? I dont think so. Well, to be frank enough, everyone knew that BlackBerry is not doing well and it will need more than just the new BlackBerry Torch to make a hit on the stock market. Android phones and iPhones are what on the stock market now. Its like there is a game between Android phones and iPhone, and other players like the BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7, Samsung Bada are just the audience. Palm's Web OS went missing just after a few months since its launch. Now, BlackBerry is facing the same situation.

BlackBerry OS 6 may bring some share from the stock market, but nothing can bring back the previous shares BlackBerryBerry had, at least, in the near future. BlackBerry has to make some great effort to get back in track. Android phones are taking out all the juice from the market to itself. Face it BlackBerry,  you can do a lot better.

RIM Confirms the Acquision of Documents To Go

Yesterday we saw that BlackBerry phones maker, RIM, got some rumors on its sides that the company might have bought Documents To Go. But yesterday, the Canadian company confirmed this rumor by saying that they have bought the company for $50 million in cash!! DataViz, the company which designed and produced Documents To Go and several other apps for the BlackBerry, iPhone, iPad, Windows Mobile, Android phones, is now under Research in Motion. So Documents To Go will no longer be a cross platform app, its exclusive to BlackBerry now.

Research in Motion said yesterday “RIM has acquired some of the assets of DataViz and hired the majority of its employees to focus on supporting the BlackBerry platform.” As CNET’s Jessica Dolcourt points out, “fifteen dollars a pop for iPhone business professionals buying Documents To Go for iPhone isn’t a business to quickly pull from.”

We may now see RIM making this app available to its customers for free on its phones. It can make a premium version of the app by adding some more features and them sell it to executives who use this app on a large scale. So other platform users, this is no more the app for you.

BlackBerry Users switching to other phones

There have been a lot of surveys and research on Research in Motion's BlackBerry. Many agencies, like Nielsen Co, NDP Group and a few more, have clearly suggested and proved that many people who are presently using BlackBerry phones show an interest in moving or migrating to other platforms, obviously enough to iPhone and Android devices. Most of the BlackBerry users have already moved on to these rival platforms making themselves formar BlackBerry users.

What can be the reason for this paradigm shift? BlackBerry has been losing grounds on different issues recently, this is a known fact. Countries are moving forward to an extent of even banning the company's services in their countries. Research in Motion has seen a worth while dip in its market share and stock market. To make it up to this, the company has started buying other app companies which are popular and best selling apps for the BlackBerry phones. This can be a move to make these apps exclusive to BlackBerry so that users will start buying the phone at least for the reason that those apps are not available for other platforms.

It is yet to see how BlackBerry users are going to react to this new acquisition and stuffs being made by the company.
